Engineering Mandate
The Architecture
Open Ikon Provenance is not a software platform. It is a physical archival mint — engineered at the intersection of aerospace metallurgy, photonic physics, and institutional provenance law. Every component has been selected to outlast the digital epoch entirely.
The token chassis is machined from high-purity fused silica glass — the same material used in aerospace optics and deep-space instrumentation. It is chemically inert, thermally stable to 1,000°C, and rated for a storage lifespan exceeding one millennium under standard archival conditions.
Data is written using ultra-fast femtosecond laser pulses that create permanent structural micro-alterations (voxels) beneath the surface of the glass. Each voxel modifies the local refractive index and birefringence of the substrate — encoding information as a passive optical state, not a digital file.
The outer chassis is fabricated from an 18-karat gold alloy, precision-machined to aerospace tolerances under AS9100 quality management certification. The chassis provides physical protection for the glass substrate and serves as the institutional presentation artifact.
Provenance data is retrieved by passing a coherent polarized light source through the substrate and reading the resulting wavefront diffraction pattern. No electronic contact, no network connection, and no software decryption key is required or possible. The record is self-contained in the physics of the glass.
RSA-2048 and ECC encryption will be broken by quantum computers running Shor's Algorithm within the decade. Open Ikon Provenance carries no mathematical encryption. There is no key to steal, no cipher to break, no database to breach. The provenance record exists as a physical optical state inside solid glass. Quantum decryption is irrelevant.
